Viviane Favery and Bruno Lemes are champions of the International Chaoyang Estrada Real, in Mariana (MG)
Land of the mountain bike receives 1,200 cyclists of the 2nd stage of the International Marathon Chaoyang Estrada Real in the first capital of Minas Gerais
After the unprecedented Carlos Tadeu Short Track Challenge by Paula Monteiro held in the historic center of Mariana (MG) on Saturday (16), about 1,200 athletes faced the 2nd stage of the International Chaoyang Estrada Real de Mountain Bike, on Sunday (17) the beautiful mountains of the municipality in two MTB routes XCM: full of 67km has 2,390m of accumulated altimetry (rises!) and the reduced route (48km) has 1,590m of altimetry.
The cloudy weather and mild temperature (18 ° C average) on Sunday was perfect for the competitors, making it a quick test. The first athlete to complete the race was Vitor Andrade (Cabral Bike Shop / Merida), 18 years old, from Itatiaia (RJ), who secured the bicampeonato, after winning the 1st stage in Ouro Branco (MG): “I attacked 5km for arrival, leaving the local Thiago Freitas, who came with me. My tactic was always to get on the trail alone to walk quietly, accelerating on the climbs. It worked “, says the general champion of the Sport category after just over 2 hours of testing.
The first girl to return to the competition arena in Minas Gerais Square was the short track champion, the young female athlete Giuliana Morgen (Sense Factory Team), who celebrated the 15 year anniversary with the double victory in Mariana (MG). “Just out of the way I fell, I grazed my knee, my electronic gearbox had disconnected, then I hit Di2 and moved on. It was 40 minutes up, we took the final technical track. My arm was shaking, but the smile did not leave my face. I’m very happy, “says champion GiuGiu, who had a double victory on Saturday and Sunday in the XCC and XCM races respectively.
On the whole course, elite athletes – male and female – literally flew on the tracks. There were basically two saws outlived by the participants and magnificent settings. Soon in the first hardest, with 7km of distance, a group of 12 athletes gained prominence, soon reducing to a squad of 8 cyclists, falling for six competitors until the second half of the test. Lukas Kaufmann, Hugo Prado Neto, Daniel Carneiro Zoia, Edson Junior Jefferson Batista (local athlete) and defending champion Bruno Lemes walked together with a very strong rhythm.
In the last range, only three competitors remained. “It seems that the last climb had no end, it was wearing psychologically and then came a super technical descent” – Bruno Lemes (Corratec), double champion of the International Chaoyang Estrada Real, who used the same strategy of last race in Ouro Branco (MG) , accelerating from the beginning. “The race was defined in the final mountain range. Who had legs could follow “- added Lukas Kaufmann (Cannondale Brazil Racing), runner-up of the race in Mariana (MG).
In third place was Edson Junior (Caloi Avancini Team), short track champion on Saturday (16). “At the start of the race I had a teammate with me, but it was not yet a crucial moment of the race. When it accelerated, I just could not use the partners in any strategy “- Edson Junior, 21.
“In my vision, I felt other athletes working together not to let the second peloton not reach the leaders.” I thought that was very good, so we arrived in the final mountain with only Lukas and Juninho, it was a very quick race. 170bpm, I’m very happy, “added the champion.
In the women’s section, the two-time Brazilian MTB marathon champion, Viviane Favery (Cannondale Brasil Racing) managed to open a small advantage in the initial climb, gaining ground from the current champion Letícia Cândido.
“I was very focused on the start, because I had several technical problems in other races and today I did my race. The sport is a test that goes far beyond the physical. I walked with the calibration very high to avoid problems with the tires. In the end I got to do an excellent test. I knew that the first part of the race would be very fast. I tried to keep a strong group. On the final climb, I walked the limit. I’m thrilled to win. On the final descent I had fun. I want to thank the Shimano team who left my perfect bike “- said champion Viviane Favery, from São Paulo (SP).
In second place was Letícia Cândido (Audax / FSA), champion of the 1st stage of the International Chaoyang Estrada Real. “I like to walk in the strongest squads of men. Today was a very hard race for me, from the 30 km, I managed to fit my pace “- recalled the cyclist from Minas Gerais of Ouro Branco. In third place was Isabella Ribeiro (Specialized Racing BR).
Tadeu Monteiro Short Track Challenge
On Saturday (16), the historic center of Mariana (MG) received the Carlos Tadeu Challenge by Paula Monteiro, an unprecedented short track tribute to the businessman and event organizer, such as Ametur Cup. “In addition to a tribute to Tadeu Monteiro, a person who
helped to spread the mountain bike in Minas Gerais and all over the country, the short track event was performed in a format aimed at open TV, a pioneering project in the Brazilian mountain bike that came to revolutionize. “- commented Felipe Avelar, organizer of Avelar Sports, on the competition dynamics that selected the 20 men’s elite cyclists, who toured a 600-meter urban circuit where the last athletes of the peloton were eliminated with each lap, leaving the top 5 for the final sprint.
Young talented Giuliana Morgen, better known as GiuGiu, the current Pan American youth champion, pedaled hard to win the title of the Carlos Tadeu Short Track Challenge by Paula Monteiro. In the masculine, after an electrifying dispute, Edson Rezende Junior (Caloi Avancini Team) won the sprint, beating his teammate Pedro Lage and Lukas Kaufmann.
